I just used Curb for the first time, against my better judgement. I am writing this from the Uber I had to call. We are headed to JFK from downtown. I booked in advance on Curb due to the apparent price advantage with Uber (but who knows whether this is simply made up) this afternoon. The app experience isn’t slick so I guess I should have been more attentive. Then I got a notification on the app that the car was due in x minutes. Then it said the car was assigned . So I see a car icon, which doesn’t move, but the estimated minutes reduces, making me think it’s on its way. Then I get an error that WiFi wasn’t available so I couldn’t get the app to do anything (my phone data is working fine, I booked my Uber on it). I asked for a call back, I got a call from area code Fresno (California, presumably routed by Curb) but couldn’t hear anything. So given I had my family standing on the street I booked Uber and was in a car within 5 minutes). Only on this ride do I notice that they sent me an EMAIL saying they couldn’t fulfill my pre-booked ride request.
The product team should be embarrassed. I would strongly suggest people don’t use this app for anything where they’re relying on the driver turning up…so that’s every ride, I suppose.
Total missed opportunity to unseat Uber who I am sure love to see cub a poor competitor.
I've used Curb a lot, but my last time--last month for a trip to Newark Airport booked the night before--will be my last. I reserved a cab the night before, 6 am pickup time from Brooklyn to Newark Airport. At 5:57 am, I get a call from Khaled who tells me that I've cancelled my trip (I didn't), and he's 17 minutes away in Manhattan. But, guess what? He's a nice guy, so he can still come to get me, it's just going to cost more money. S.C.A.M. I had a few choice words, and ended up calling Uber to take me to the airport. I made a complaint to Curb--they got back to me in 48 hours and said I cancelled the trip on the app, so I asked them to send me the screen shot. Nothing, just platitudes; "have a blessed day." So, filed a complaint with the TLC. It took a month, but today they found in my favor, and the driver had to pay a fine. Curb might be OK for short trips, but use at your own risk.
Very poor customer service booking agents. I called and Sid answered the phone and I gave him my Id number and he kept saying it incorrectly 7 times. After he finally got it correct he kept asking me for my pick up and drop off locations several times then repeated it back incorrectly. It was a pure waste of time. I called back and he answered again so I decided to use Uber. No problems at all booking a ride with Uber. Curb has the worst agents and that Sid is one of the most ignorant people ever. He cannot simply take down simple information and he cannot distinguish between numbers and says it back incorrectly over and over again. He is losing Curb money because no one wants to book a ride with him. Get RID OF SID.
